Dr. Mandell-Brown Explains Why He Assigns Breast Augmentation “Homework”

Breast augmentation is not a one-size-fits-all procedure. At the Mandell-Brown Plastic Surgery Center in Cincinnati and Springboro, we take special care during your consultation to understand your expectations. One method that helps us provide a completely customized experience is assigning breast augmentation “homework.” Here, Cincinnati plastic surgeons Dr. Mark Mandell-Brown and Dr. Gina Maccarone explain what the assignment is and the genius behind this unconventional approach that has resulted in a near-perfect patient satisfaction rate.

Breast augmentation homework

The success of your breast augmentation relies heavily on our understanding of your unique vision. We ask patients to review photos of breast augmentation results, and based on their honest personal opinions, bring specific photos to their consultation:

  • 3 photos of results that are one cup size too small
  • 3 photos of results that are one cup size too large
  • 3 photos of results that are “perfect” cup size

These photos can be from our website, social media platforms, online forums, etc. We also suggest reviewing results on the Mentor™ breast implant website.

Why this approach earns an A+ from our patients

These photos aren’t necessarily used to determine implant size, shape, and profile, during your Cincinnati breast augmentation consultation. Instead, they are a dialogue starter to bridge the gap between expectation and possibility. Photos provide a tangible way for patients to communicate what they find appealing, too excessive, or just right in terms of size and shape. Having visual aids helps supplement verbal descriptions (which can sometimes be subjective or open to interpretation), and allow us to develop a more clear and shared understanding of your desired outcome.

98.5% of patients are happy with their breast size after using Dr. Mandell-Brown’s novel approach to breast augmentation consultations.

We also use these photos to demonstrate how we will tailor the surgical plan to the patient’s unique body structure and aesthetic preferences. We’ve found that this method enriches the consultation process, making it more efficient and easing the anxiety many patients feel when they aren’t sure how to explain what they want. In our experience, our patients feel empowered by taking an active role in their care and post-operative appearance.

Going beyond cup sizes

Instead of promising a specific cup size, the focus is on achieving the look and feel that aligns with the patient’s goals. This may involve trying multiple implant sizes during surgery to find the best fit, a practice that has led to a remarkable 98.5% satisfaction rate on post-operative breast size for Dr. Mandell-Brown’s patients.

Cup sizes can vary significantly between clothing brands and look vastly different across multiple body types. Plus, breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc)—not in cup sizes—so speaking in terms of cup size is not an accurate or reliable way to discuss volume ranges.

In sum, our “homework” for you is key and we look forward to supporting you in your breast enhancement journey!

“Dr. Mark Mandell-Brown dots his I’s and crosses his T’s. He comes at his breast augmentation procedure from every angle to deliver you the ultimately BEST SERVICE possible. You do your homework and he’ll give you the results you want. I highly recommend Dr Mandell-Brown for your breast procedure. I look in the mirror and I like what I see.”
