Botox Is an Effective Way to Reduce a Variety of Age Lines

Age lines, skin folds, and wrinkles in your skin can add years to your appearance. Even a twenty-year-old can be mistaken for a forty-year-old if their skin shows too many fine lines. Many lotions, creams, and facial packs claim to treat these wrinkles and age lines, but none compare to the effectiveness of Botox.

The procedure is FDA approved and is quite safe when performed by skilled medical professionals. Before we discuss Botox’s efficacy in fighting age lines, let’s learn a little about the procedure itself.

What Is Botox?

Botox is a popular product due to its ability to eliminate wrinkles and age lines and to prevent future wrinkles from developing. Botox eliminates crow’s feet and frown lines by relaxing the facial muscles. It can enhance your appearance without any need for a surgical procedure.

Botox is a neurotoxin derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which is largely inactive and non-toxic. When formulated correctly, it can be used to selectively inhibit muscle movement in order to achieve cosmetic goals.

How Does It Work?

We repeat the same facial movements over and over again, including smiling, chewing, and frowning. As we do this, we are inadvertently training our muscles to stay in these positions, and it becomes harder for them to relax. This creates the appearance of many facial wrinkles.

When injected into overused muscles, Botox blocks nerve signals to these muscles. The muscles relax as a result, easing away the presence of lines and wrinkles on the overlying skin. The effects of Botox can last from three to four months, and after this time, patients can come in for follow-up treatments.

The Procedure

Dr. Mandell-Brown first examines the patient’s face for the areas that have the highest concentration of lines, folds, and wrinkles. He then marks these areas. These areas are usually near the corners of the mouth, around the eyes and the jawline, in the chin area, and near the cheekbones.

After the assessment is made, Dr. Mandell-Brown administers the patient with an anesthetic cream. This ensures a painless procedure. He then proceeds to inject small amounts of Botox carefully into the marked areas. The procedure is usually very short and convenient, lasting for about 15 minutes.

The Advantages of Botox

Botox is a non-surgical procedure and is only minimally invasive in nature. Because of this, it does not require making any incisions in the skin, so no scalpel is required.

No recovery period is needed after the procedure, so patients can go on to resume their daily routine almost immediately without any worry. Because of this, Botox treatment is known as a lunch-time procedure.

Only a minimal degree of swelling and bruising will occur in comparison to surgical procedures, and these side-effects will resolve quickly.
