At Mandell-Brown Plastic Surgery Center, we offer Restylane in Cincinnati, an injectable filler to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face.
What Is Restylane?
Restylane is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler similar to Juvederm. Restylane, which is produced by Medicis Corp., is ideal for replacing lost volume and improving facial wrinkles and folds. The Restylane solution works so well at replacing lost volume since its composition mimics the hyaluronic acids in your skin, which give it suppleness and fullness. When injected into a specific area by your plastic surgeon, Restylane combines with your skin’s own properties and fills the line or wrinkle.
What Can I Expect from the Restylane Treatment?
When you visit Mandell-Brown for your Restylane treatment, your appointment will be short—most sessions last half an hour or less. To begin, your skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic both on and around the treatment site. No anesthetic is necessary for Restylane treatment, though a topical anesthetic may be available for more sensitive patients. After the injection site has been prepared, your plastic surgeon will use a special technique to inject the Restylane solution. Once it has been placed, your plastic surgeon may gently massage the injection site to ensure proper placement and an ideal aesthetic result.
Restylane Aftercare and Results
Following your Restylane treatment, you should be able to return to your normal routine, but with a few limitations. For several hours after treatment, you will need to avoid exercise, sun exposure and alcohol. You should also continue wearing an SPF when you are exposed to the sun. Side effects following Restylane treatments are minimal but the injection site may feel tight and you may experience some swelling, tenderness or swelling, all of which will dissipate quickly.
According to the company, Restylane lasts about six months. However, in some facial areas such as the lips or nasolabial folds the product may last just two to three months. After this time, you will likely wish to schedule a touch-up treatment at Mandell-Brown to maintain the beautiful result.
Restylane Alternatives
Some patients wonder which is better: Restylane (and other soft tissue fillers) or Botox? The answer is that Botox relaxes the muscle movement (forehead, crow’s feet, and glabellar lines) whereas fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane fill out the lines and add volume to the area. Some patients benefit from both Botox and fillers.
