Venus Legacy vs. Liposuction

Venus Legacy and liposuction could be seen as two different services that can achieve close to the same goal. However, both services are completely different from the actual procedure performed to recovery time. Why would someone choose one over the other? Dr. Mark Mandell-Brown of The Mandell-Brown Plastic Surgery Center explains the differences between the two.

Dr. Mandell-Brown, a well-known Cincinnati and Dayton plastic surgeon, provides both of these options to his patients. “It ultimately comes down to the patient and what he/she wants and does not want,” Dr. Mandell-Brown states in regards to recommending one procedure over another.

The Venus Legacy is a non-surgical procedure that uses radio frequency waves to generate heat that can be harnessed to not only tighten skin and reduce fat but to help cellulite and stretch marks. Liposuction on the other hand is a surgical procedure that suctions the fat out of those stubborn fat deposits.

“Venus Legacy is ideal for patients who prefer no down time and prefer a non-surgical approach. Liposuction is for patients who want more dramatic results with a few days (3) of down time,” says Dr. Mandell-Brown, Director of The Mandell-Brown Plastic Surgery Center.

He goes on to explain that there is more control with liposuction and we can see the fat as it is removed. Whereas the Venus Legacy, one is relying on the technology to ‘melt’ fat. “Venus Legacy is great for patients who can accept a 10%-35% improvement and liposuction is great for patients who want 70%-100% improvement. Major difference is the procedure itself: non-surgical vs. surgical,” says Dr. Mandell-Brown.

All in all, it comes down to the patient and what their goals are. It is important to consult with your plastic surgeon and talk about the pros and cons of each procedure.
