Breast Implant Shape
There are multiple breast implant shapes available in Cincinnati. We typically use the moderate profile, round implant. Other types include shaped or sloped implants and adjustable breast implants that can have a port or access that you fill as the occasion arises.
Moderate profile
Most popular, most consistent results
Shaped Profile
Sounds great in theory, since the breast is naturally sloped, however, if the implant rotates just a little off axis, the breast appears miss-shaped. I compare it to baseball. Do you want the hitter to swing for a home run every time ( and strike out a lot) or do you want the hitter to go for a double or triple and get home runs as well. If you look at our Before and Afters the moderate profile looks so good that it look like a natural breast.
Adjustable Implants
these implants are for those who can’t make up their mind on the size. There is a small square fill chamber that is buried under the skin. If you want an evening where you are a little more endowed, the physician can simply add a syringe of saline to the chamber and increase the implant fill. The next day, saline can be removed.
This Seems like a good idea, but not practical. If the fill chamber gets infected, then it has to be removed. Better for the patient and cosmetic surgeon to get the size correct initially.
Implant Companies:
Two major companies in the United Sates make breast implants. Mentor and Inamed (formerly called McGhan) both based in California make saline and silicone implants. We use both companies as each company has the same size implant but slightly different dimensions. When we select the implant, we base it on the patient’s chest dimensions, pre-operative discussions, and photos the patient brings in. Having both Mentor and Inamed implants available helps us choose the best implant for that patient.
The two companies warrant the implant itself for life. Thus, if there is a deflation, the implant is replaced free of charge. However, there is still a surgeon fee and operating room fee. The two companies will provide $1400 to the surgeon/ OR if the implant deflates with in the first ten (10) years. After the first ten (10) years, they will only replace the implant itself.
You can purchase for $100.00 an extended warranty. Our office will provide you a form after surgery. It is entirely up to you to send it in if you desire the additional coverage.
The warranty doubles the coverage to $2800 to cover the surgeon and OR fee only if the deflation occurs within the first ten (10) years. After that, there is no coverage except from Mentor or Inamed who will provide the implant itself.
