Botox FAQs
One of the most exciting
advances in plastic surgery has been the use
of Botox to eliminate facial wrinkles. Once
used for spasm of the vocal cords and spasm
of the lower eyelids, the FDA has now approved
use of Botox for forehead creases and to eliminate
the lower eyelid crows feet.
There are several types of Botox
(A through G), but only Botox A is currently
approved. Thousands of cases have proven its
effectiveness and safety.
Botox works by preventing release
of messengers (acetylchoine) at the junction
of the nerves and the muscles. Without the release
of the messengers, the muscles are temporarily
paralyzed. Botox takes 1 to 3 days to start working
and can last 1 month to 6months.
Many claim that the more Botox
injections, the longer it works. We have not
found this to be true. The response time tends
to be individual specific—each vial of
Botox and each patient tends to react differently.
For example, for one patient the
wrinkle smoothing effect may last 3 months and
the next injection may last only 1 to 2 months,
and a third injection may last 4 months.
Botox parties are popular-but beware.
Botox can be painful and multiple injections
to the forehead area are required. We believe
that the Botox parties are a fad. The injections
are better off performed in a plastic surgeon’s
office- for privacy and comfort. Botox parties
are better for those plastic surgeons seeking
media exposure.
Although BOTOX parties are being publicized,
its not TUPPERWARE----you are better off having
the procedure in the privacy and comfort of a
plastic surgeon’s office.

FAQs
Q. How much does Botox
cost?
A. We typically charge $250 per site. The crows
feet on both sides are one site, the forehead
is one site, and the area between the brows
(glabella) is another site.
Q. Any down time with
Botox?
A. Some patients may experience some bruising.
This can occur with any injection and is temporary.
Most patients go right back to their routine
after the office visit.
Q. What else can Botox
be used for?
A. Botox has had a great response for those
with excessive armpit sweating. The same nerve
messengers trigger sweating, so Botox can eliminate
this embarrassing problem.
Botox can also be effective
for migraine headaches by relaxing the muscles
in the forehead area.
